San Francisco, CA (1999)
The primary goals of the San Francisco Recreation and Park Department Assessment and Strategic Plan were to identify the goals, trends, and needs for future park improvements and provide the support information to generate a funding package to accomplish these improvements.
YSA lead the project effort coordinating an extensive team of experts within a wide variety of disciplines. The data collection included an evaluation of previous park studies, a variety of community outreach programs, technical assessments of existing park facilities, preliminary construction cost information for specific park properties, analysis of the demographic needs of San Francisco’s 263 parks, and visionary ideas for the future direction of the park system. YSA also prioritized projected capital improvement projects based on differing funding or need scenarios.
The results of this study were presented in a Summary Report. Our report was the basis for a $350 million bond approved by the citizens of San Francisco for implementing a 20-year revitalization plan of the city’s park system.
