San Juan. Puerto Rico (2015)

This project uses an existing house to transform a 1961 tract home into a contemporary dwelling without altering the structure and minimal expansion of the original square footage. Following the allowable code constraints, a cloistered patio was added to the front of the home and a retaining wall at the rear to permit a lap pool and second patio off the family and master bedroom.

Consistent with today’s lifestyle, the kitchen/family room is oversized, and the living room is more modest, with seating for five. The house includes three bedrooms, two baths, a dining room seating 10, a children’s playroom, and a private study with a separate entrance.
