San Juan. Puerto Rico (2015)
Using an existing house as a point of departure, this project transformed a 1961 tract home into a contemporary dwelling without altering the structure and with minimal expansion of the original square footage. Following the allowable code constraints, a cloistered patio was added to the front of the home and retaining wall at the rear to permit a lap pool and second patio off the family and master bedroom.
Consistent with today’s lifestyle, the kitchen/family room is oversized, and the living room more modest, with seating for five. The house includes three bedrooms, two baths, a dining room seating 10, a children’s playroom and private study with separate entrance.
