San Francisco, California (1999)
YSA participated in three distinct phases of the planning and design of this master plan. Hunters Point Shipyard-Candlestick Point received the award for Best “On the Boards” Site Plan, competing against the U.S. and international entries. IBI Group and RHAA were land planners for the project.
“This award is a testament to the hard work and strong vision of our planners, our associates and the community – which provided much input throughout the planning process,” said Kofi Bonner, president of Lennar Urban, developer of the redevelopment project in southeast San Francisco. “The entire community deserves praise for this award.”
The Pacific Coast Builders Conference is the building industry’s leading conference and trade show. The PCBC’s Gold Nugget Awards honor creative achievements in architectural design and land use planning for residential, commercial and industrial projects. Gold Nugget winners share one common denominator: excellence and innovation in addressing complex design/build issues.
In honoring Hunters Point Shipyard-Candlestick Point, the judges said: ”This San Francisco project encompasses 777 acres, targeting young professionals working in the city with almost 12,000 mixed units. Proposed mix of public and workforce housing along with affordable, move up housing, R & D, retail, hotel, and cultural venues. This proposed ‘mini city’ would achieve sustainability through solar ready rooftop units and reclaimed water. Biking and walking trails will serve to connect neighborhoods, schools, parks, and retail. The sheer immensity of the overall project will provide unique challenges to the Development.” At least one YSA principal participated as design architect, supervising architect and/or senior designer while associated with the architect-of-record for this project.
